Regulatory status
UK

In April 1988 the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry in the UK approved ICMA (then named the Association of International Bond Dealers (AIBD)) as an “International Securities Self-Regulating Organisation” (ISSRO) for the purposes of the Financial Services Act 1986. Under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, which came into force in December 2001 and following the Association’s merger with IPMA, ICMA retained its ISSRO status.
